Working With Gail
Throughout her career Gail has elegantly pirouetted through the realm of visual design. Her ardor for beauty and whimsy permeates every project she undertakes, and the wisdom she has attained from her varied experiences allows her to take on every project with confidence.
Before her return to Canada, Gail spent two years in London, England, and eighteen years in Los Angeles. She initially embarked on her career as a makeup artist, contributing to music videos, commercials, films, television, and prestigious special effects labs. After a decade, she ventured into independent film projects, donning the roles of director and choreographer, all while honing her skills in production design at UCLA.
In need of financial stability, Gail dabbled in decorating parties, eventually parlaying these talents into a highly successful event design company. Her imaginative outlook and fanciful approach earned her the moniker ‘The Dr. Seuss of Event Design,’ curating extravagant soirées for luminaries such as the Academy Awards, Ringo Starr, NFL, Grammy Awards, MTV, XBox, and numerous film premieres.
In 2002, Gail and her family relocated to Vancouver, where she transitioned into the realms of interior design and staging. Her prowess captured the attention of a producer, leading her to assume the role of the ‘behind the scenes designer’ for various TV lifestyle shows, including the second season of HGTV’s ‘Worst to First‘ and the A&E show ‘Vacation Rental Potential,’ which traversed the United States. She also lent her creative touch to renovations featured on the W Network’s ‘Love it or List it – Vancouver – Season I,’ ‘Love it or List it – Vacation Homes,’ and two seasons of the HGTV show ‘Consumed.’ Her distinctive designs graced the sets of ‘The Bachelorette Canada‘ (including all the ‘After Show’ sets) and the HGTV series ‘Holmes Family Effect.’ Gail even showcased her staging expertise on-camera for HGTV’s ‘The Stagers – Season 2‘.
In recent years, Gail has primarily focused on her role as a Production Designer in scripted television. After crafting a series of Movies of the Week for Hallmark and Lifetime Television, she embarked on the design journey of the enduring Hallmark show ‘When Calls the Heart,’ shaping its ninth and tenth seasons. Her designs will soon to be aired on the second season of the television sensation ‘Farming for Love‘.
She currently is one of the ‘Production Design’ instructors at the prestigious Vancouver Film School.
As an accomplished painter, Gail has hosted numerous solo exhibitions and boasts a prestigious clientele for custom art pieces. Her artistic talent even garnered commissions for The Academy Awards Governor’s Ball in Los Angeles. To explore her artwork, visit gailtaylor.org.
Gail has also created her own unique line of wearable art inspired by her paintings: bloomdesigns.ca.
